“Platinum Age Comics List” Annual Meeting at the Angoulême Comics Convention 2019
Created in 1999 by Robert Beerbohm, the Platinum Age Comics discussion list brings together more than 500 members from more than 30 countries interested in the study of comics from the 19th century to the mid-1930s. Every year, its members who are present at the Angoulême Convention meet on Friday to have lunch and discuss their favourite subject together.
For the 2019 edition, the traditional “Plat Luncheon” will take place as usual on Friday, January 25, 2019 at 12 am at “La table à dessin”, the restaurant on the top floor of the ” Vaisseau Moebius” (the former building of the comics museum).
Next, the “Plat Meeting” will be held in the afternoon from 2 pm to 4 pm at the “Musée de la Bande Dessinée”, on the other bank of the river (the room is still to be determined): https://goo.gl/maps/6ucA7xZpY9m
For those of you who never attended such a “Plat Meeting” in the past, the objective is to enjoy a number of informal presentations about the “Platinum” field. Everyone who feels like it, can share something he’s involved in, e.g.:
– new or recent publications presented by their author(s) or publisher(s);
– new or recent reprinting projects (like the ones from Sunday Press) by their publishers or contributors;
– ongoing projects or research in progress (books or articles publication, PhD, exhibition, etc.);
– new discoveries (unknown artist or press title, etc.).
These presentations last a maximum of 15 to 20 minutes. If you discovered an unknown album by Töpffer, this is the place & time to share this with the rest of the world and gain eternal fame in return !
These presentations are free and open to the public. Anyone wishing to contribute, is welcome, provided you contact us as soon as possible so that we can include you in the programme.
If you simply wish to attend one of these events, please also register here as soon as possible: https://goo.gl/forms/D8dpA9gj0BIdyiho2
This registration is important, because we need to confirm the estimated number of participants with both the restaurant and the museum.
The language of presentation and discussion is French or English, but more exotic languages have proven to be no real obstacle in the past. Comics is primarly “looking at pictures”, tends to be the philosophy!
An overview of the programme, and the indication of the precise room of the museum, will be added on this page when they become known.
We look forward to meeting you in Angoulême,
Antoine Sausverd & Michel Kempeneers
